Thursday Purrrsday - Meet China Cat Sunflower!!

This week my friend Rachel and I had a fun skype date and I got to know a lot about her adorable kitty, China Cat Sunflower!!  Rachel and I have known each other since 8th grade and since we only get to see each other maybe once a year now it was so much fun getting to see her (and China!) on my computer.

China is three years old and Rachel has had her for two years now, her "birthday" of living with Rachel was actually just a few days ago.  China was living in an old ladies basement next to Rachel's Grandma when she was rescued.  The old lady took a bad fall and ended up going in the hospital and was not going to be able to take care of China anymore, which is where Rachel stepped in and adopted her.

Her name comes from the song "China Cat Sunflower" by The Grateful Dead.  Rachel was having a really hard time picking out a name for her and one night at a friends party that song came on and everyone agreed that it was the perfect name for her new cat.

Some of China's funny personality traits are...

Wanting to be held like a baby on your shoulder - she can stay like that for hours and often will turn her head and give kisses while she's being held.

Loving to get her butt spanked - not like a real spanking but more of a continuous patting.  According to Rachel, "A happy cat gets their butt spanked, I spank her butt at least twice a day."

Crying in the morning at very early hours to get fed but when she gets her food she walks away and doesn't eat it.

And my favorite trait China has, (which I think is more of a talent) is when she meows at people on the phone.  Rachel got China to start doing this because her boyfriend wanted to talk to her one night on the phone, so Rachel reinforced her to meow into the phone by giving her treats.  Now China associates the phone with treats so she follows Rachel around the house meowing whenever she is on the phone.  Rachel showed me and I thought it was the cutest thing in the world because she was talking to me, but Rachel is trying to teach her not to do that anymore

Rachel and her boyfriend love China so much they even got each other flasks with China's picture on them for Christmas!

I think China is a very happy cat now that she is living with Rachel.  All through our skype call China kept coming and sitting in Rachel's lap and giving her kisses or touching her nose to Rachel's, it was so sweet to see.  And I know that Rachel is happy she rescued China and brought her into her family.  One thing Rachel said was, "I've had a bunch of cats and they've all been assholes.  They haven't liked me or don't want to be around me, but China is the best and the only cat who wants to hang out with me, sit on my lap and give me kisses all the time."

Thank you Rachel and China Cat Sunflower!!!

Thursday Purrrsday - A Makeover Story

Both the cats got haircuts yesterday and I was told they both did great!
I knew Jude would be fine because she's had a haircut before and loved it.  I was a little worried about Prudence but they said she was very cooperative and everyone loved her.  Here are the results!

 Jude Before

Jude After!

Prudence Before

Prudence After!

Both the cats are acting normal and luckily since they smell the same there's not too much hissing going on between them (besides Jude's usual moodiness).
And best of all, no fleas in sight!

What I Wore - Feeling Foxy

dress - Flashbacks
cardigan - borrowed from Katie
shoes - Steve Madden (from 2005)
tights - We Love Colors

A few weekends ago Kyle and I went exploring in Hillcrest and stopped in at Flashbacks where I found this awesome dress.  I think the foxes on it are great, especially in their little scarves.  Flashbacks is a really fun store and we discovered that they had an entire rack of Christmas sweaters!  We had already bought our Christmas sweaters though, so there's always next year to check them out.  But if you're in need of one, I would recommend going there.
Look forward to more posts everybody!  I planned out the rest of my month and what will be on each day.  I am especially excited for a Thursday Purrrsday edition with my fabulous friend Rachel and her pretty kitty!  Fun things are on the way!!

Thursday Purrrsday - Meet Brady the Black Kitty!

So my friend Zack got a kitten last night and when I saw pics of him I just about melted out of his adorableness.  I thought it would be a fun idea to feature Zack and his new addition, Brady on today's Thursday Purrsday!
Zack and I have known each other since I moved to California and him and Katie (my roommate) have known each other their whole lives, which is how we met.  Zack lives in Phoenix but since thats not such a far drive we still get to see him a couple times a year which is wonderful.

Here's me and Zack way back in 2008 hanging out with the itty bitty Hollywood sign in the background.

And heeeere is Brady!

I asked Zack a few questions about Brady just so we could get to know him a little better and here's what he had to say!

What made you decide to adopt a kitten?
I work from home and was spending so much time alone that I realized I would be happier if I had something here to keep me company. I needed a low maintenance animal so obviously dogs were out. I thought about a fish but you can't cuddle with fishes :-)

What was it about Brady that drew you to him?
At the shelter, my friend Kennelle and I were walking up and down the windowed walls looking at all the cute kittens. When we got to Brady, who was being called Velvet, he pulled out all of his tricks so that I would choose him. He started jumping around and touching the glass...almost like he was saying "hey! I want you to be my dad!"

Why did you choose the name Brady?
I had my heart set on a girl kitten that I could name Vivi. I found the perfect kitten at the Humane Society and fell in love. I got through the entire adoption process and as I'm signing the last paper, the lady says "and he's current on shots!" I was dumbfounded. I realized I couldn't name my new little boy Vivi, so I named him Brady because that's the name I chose if I were to ever have a son.

How was your first night spent with him?
My first night was interesting. Once I passed out, he was okay. He loved to sleep behind my back and cuddle it. I was scared that when I would roll over I was going to crush him.

Have you noticed any funny personality traits or quirks yet?
This cat is FULL of personality! He is obsessed with my face. He's always trying to get as close to my face to rub against it and lick it. He loves running around his new house and telling me how much he loves when I play with him. He is very clingy...which I love.

Have you instantly become a cat person?
I'm not sure if I'm instantly a cat person...but I am certainly head over heels with him. Give me a few months and I'm sure I will be. I can't wait to see him grow up. My allergies are kind of bad right now but just like all of the other animals in my life, I'll build a tolerance to him.

I say give it a couple months and Zack will be wearing dorky cat shirts and talking to Brady in meows like a normal cat person does.  Brady seems like the perfect addition for Zack and we've already decided to do some more posts about him in the future, its always fun to see what new things cats discover they can do.  I'm sure Zack will know all of Brady talents and personality traits soon enough!
Thanks Zack and Brady for being a part of Thursday Purrsday!!!

What I Wore to Work - Let's Get Some Shoes

dress - H&M
tights - Target
shoes - It's A Wrap

This past weekend Kyle and I went thrifting in Los Angeles and one of the stores we visited was It's A Wrap.  This store re-sells clothes donated to them from TV and movie sets, and its where I stumbled across these wonderful red shoes!  They were in my size and fit perfectly so it seemed like they were just waiting there for me to take them home.  I also made a visit to H&M last night and bought this dress which I really like because it can easily be dressed up or dressed down.  After I got home from work I put jeans on with it and it was like a new outfit!
The weather is finally starting to cool down here in San Diego so I'm looking forward to wearing some more wintery outfits in the weeks to come!

What I Wore To Work - Christmas is in the Air

dress - Macy's
tights - Icing
boots - Rocketdogs

It's officially the holiday season and I am excited about it!!!
And no I did not go out and get these props to take dorky pictures, but conveniently we have been filming Christmas things at work so obviously I am going to take advantage of it!
I found these amazing tights just last night and I couldn't resist wearing them immediately.  It was really hard finding something to pair them with though, so luckily this dress can fit into any sort of season.
Hooray for Christmas!

Crochet Night With The Cats

Slowly but surely I am making items to put in my Etsy shop.  With a busy schedule and many other crafts to be made its been a challenge for me lately but I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere and my goals with my shop aren't too far away.  Here is a sneak peak at some stuff I am working on!

Pretty bows!

Jude fell asleep while keeping me company

Hello Kitty and possible other cat scarves

winter head wraps!!

After Jude got bored of me I found her in the hallway hanging out like this.

I wish there were more hours/days in my weeks to get all the crocheting I would like to done, but I'm verrrry close to being ready.  Etsy shop opening, here we come!

What I Wore To Work - Why Wear Jewelry When Your Sweater Is Already Wearing It?

shirt - Girls Fashionably Late - they don't have a website but they do have a Facebook!
pants - Forever 21
shoes - purchased in Michigan but they are by Rocketdog
nails - Crackle paint from Claires

Who doesn't like a shirt that wears their jewelry for them?  I got this shirt a few years ago from a little boutique here in SD called Girls Fashionably Late.  I was sad to find that they don't have a website!  But they do have facebook and I get their monthly emails so they aren't completely a mystery on the web.  They always have really cute clothes and are super helpful with their customers, one time the ladies there helped me pick out an entire outfit to wear to a Christmas Party.  But I love this sweater and think it's just really classy.  I don't think I would wear pearls on my own either so it's nice to have a shirt wear them for me.
I know my nails do not go with this outfit at all, but they are post-Halloween nails and the crackle stuff still looks pretty cool.  I think I'm getting the hang of being in pictures by myself finally, or Katie is just good at telling me what to do.  In the first picture she told me to pop my hip and clearly, I did.
